Reza Fakhari

Dr. Reza Fakhari is currently Vice President for Continuing Education, Workforce Development and Strategic Community Partnerships as well as Professor of International Politics at Kingsborough Community College of the City University of New York, Brooklyn. Prior to that, he served as Associate Provost for Academic Affairs at Kingsborough and as Assistant Dean for Academic Affairs at LaGuardia Community College/CUNY. He has also been a professor of International Politics at Fordham University and a visiting faculty at International Pacific College in New Zealand, Salzburg Global Seminar in Austria, and Vassar College.
      
Dr. Fakhari has been elected to the Board of Directors of Amnesty International USA twice and elected by the Board as its Vice Chair and in 2014, 2015 and 2016.  He now chairs a Working Group on Human Rights Strategy and Impact in a Changing National and Global Context for Amnesty International USA.  He is also the Secretary of the Board of Directors of Global Citizenship Alliance, an affiliate of Salzburg Global Seminar.  Additionally, he serves on the Advisory Council of the Aspen Institute Seminars, on the Steering Committee of The Democracy Commitment, on the International Advisory Board of GlobalMindEd, and on the Editorial Advisory Board of AAC&U’s Liberal Education.
      
He holds a Ph.D. in International Relations, with Honors, from the New School for social Research.  His dissertation dealt with the emergence of Mikhail Gorbachev and his world-transforming ideas and ideals and how the West got him wrong.
       He frequently speaks and writes about the imperative of global, intercultural, and interreligious understanding and engagement in our rapidly globalizing and highly interdependent world.
