Internships may count for 3 credits per semester, with a maximum of 6 internship credits being counted towards a degree in global affairs. 1. Only 3 Internship Research Seminar credits can be used in fulfillment of a student’s distribution requirement.
2. Students must work a minimum of 180 total hours (i.e., 12 hours a week x 15 weeks). During the summer, students typically work full-time (i.e., 30-40 hours a week for 12-15 weeks).
3. The appropriate forms and procedures must be followed prior to a student being given a special permission number to register for the course 26:478:601 or 26:478:602 titled Internship Research Seminar, which is graded on a pass/fail basis. No grades of incomplete are given for the Internship Research Seminar.
Eligibility
To participate in the Division of Global Affairs Internship Program students must meet the following criteria:
Students may apply to, or select sponsoring organizations which have registered with DGA Internship Program through the Internship web portal.
Upon successful acceptance into an internship program, students must complete the Student Internship Form. This form must be submitted to the Associate Director of the Graduate Program for final approval.
Both Field Supervisors and students are required to submit a Learning Agreement Form to best ensure that the internship is a rewarding experience for all parties.
When the above steps are complete, students will receive a special permission number to register for the internship research seminar.
Students are required to meet mid-semester with their supervisor to discuss their progress, and submit a mid-semester evaluation completed by the supervisor.
All students in the DGA Internship Program are expected to present on their fieldwork during the Internship Research Seminar scheduled during the semester. Their supervisor’s attendance is strongly encouraged.
Students must complete the final project paper described proposed in the learning agreement (20 pages minimum) and submit it to the Associate Director of the Graduate Program by the last day of final exams.
